Experimental Bathing Project | Ben Paul

Communal bathing has significance to many cultures across the world. Water and heat relaxes our nervous systems; we shed layers of tension, drop into new forms of awareness, of each other, and the place around us. Experimental Bathing will explore how these psycho-physical experiences of bathing could be used to cultivate a collective tenderness and openness to deconstruct colonial patterns of thinking and relating to the land.
Constance is partnering with Ben Paul to deliver the first of three experiments within the Experimental Bathing Project. Artist-researchers will come together at a property in Kingston, where the first performative bathing experiment will be staged with a sauna made from recycled materials.

Constance ARI works across Country cared for by the Palawa of lutruwita and the Tasmanian Aboriginal Community. We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout the so called ‘Australia’, as well as First Nations people from elsewhere, and their deep connection to the lands, skies and waterways over which sovereignty was never ceded. We pay our respect to all Elders; we are grateful for their continued sharing of knowledge and Culture.
