Lucy Edgington | Holding Space

ABOUT LUCY

Lucy is an emerging artist living and creating on the traditional country of the mumirimina people in rural lutruwita. Her creative practice is exploratory, as she continues to seek out the uncomfortable space within the ‘not knowing’ through unfamiliar materials and processes. Consistently it’s mud that draws her back the most. She loves the tactile and experimental nature of clay, it’s connection to time and the grounding she feels from getting her hands dirty. Her practice often drifts towards less conventional methods as she currently explores ideas of time, privilege, control and connection. Lucy has a Diploma of Environmental Science and a Bachelor of Fine Arts. She has previously been a board member of Derwent Valley Arts and currently works within creative spaces for young people as well as caring for the sheep at Logie Farm.

During her HOLDING SPACE residency, Lucy will explore ideas of time, privilege, control and connection, while navigating the complexities and conflicts of farming and agricultural practice. Lucy will undertake experimentation with found objects materials, including metal waste found on Logie Farm, natural clays sourced from the farm’s dam, and fibres collected from paddock fences.

WORKSHOP | Saturday 23 November, 11am-1pm
Join Lucy for a morning of wild clay! Learn about how to process and make with wild clay whilst chatting about relationships with materials, slow practice, respecting the land and the ethics of foraging. The workshop will include getting your hands muddy!

During her Holding Space residency, Lucy has been experimenting with found objects and materials foraged from the farm on which she lives and works. Natural clays, rock, animal bones, fibres, scrap metal and plastic create a tension as she explores ideas of time, privilege, control, and connection, whilst navigating the complexities of farming and agricultural practice.

HOLDING SPACE is a project space and residency program delivered by Constance ARI in collaboration with the UTAS School of Creative Arts & Media (CAM).

Constance ARI works across Country cared for by the Palawa of lutruwita and the Tasmanian Aboriginal Community. We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout the so called ‘Australia’, as well as First Nations people from elsewhere, and their deep connection to the lands, skies and waterways over which sovereignty was never ceded.  We pay our respect to all Elders; we are grateful for their continued sharing of knowledge and Culture.
