Curtain place

For the last exhibition of 2010, INFLIGHT presents Curtain Place by Melbourne-based artist Llawella Lewis.  Curtain Place is an evening journey, wandering the lonely suburban streets of one’s past. A soft weatherboard house emanates a glow, luring one closer to peer through the curtains.  The artist intends to produce a scaled-down neighbourhood nightscape environment, containing an internally lit miniature-sized house and typically suburban surroundings.

The artist is interested in the architecture of the home living environment; how inhabitants interact with it physically and habitually, from both external and internal perspectives. The artist works in a repetitive manner that can be seen to imitate the repetition and habits of everyday life. In her art practice she constantly re-evaluates her surroundings; whether it be the grandeur of a metropolitan skyline or the banality of a weatherboard house in the suburbs.

Lewis studied at the University of Newcastle, gain a Bachelor of Fine Art. Her recent group exhibitions include; Bad Directions at Open Space Melbourne, 255x255 at Project Gallery Woolongong and WOW at Back to Back Gallery Newcastle. Recent solo exhibitions include; Soft City at Bus Gallery Melbourne, Social Science at John Miller Galleries Newcastle and Prelude to a Science at Field Contemporary Art Space Newcastle.
