Holding Space Residency #1

RESIDENCY #1 | 5 August - 27 September 2024
GRAHAM PRICHARD
ABOUT GRAHAM
Graham is a sculptor and photographer (BFA, Hons. COFA/UNSW) who has in the past transferred these skills into wood-fired, long fermentation bread production. Graham is also a trained psychologist and youth worker.
As part of their HOLDING SPACE residency, Graham Prichard has been working on a series of light chambers. The work brings the visual planes from several well-lit spaces into a single dark chamber, similar to a Camera Obscura. The walk-through structure can be manipulated by the viewer, translating space and matter into still image. You are invited to join Graham in celebrating their final week of residency, with an event to officially open the studio space for viewing. Graham will also be running a workshop, inviting you to participate in experimental image making.
Open Studio 23-27 September, 1-6pm
Closing Event 27 September, 5-7PM
Workshop 28 September, 11am-1PM
HOLDING SPACE is a project space and residency program delivered by Constance ARI in collaboration with the UTAS School of Creative Arts & Media.
It provides an opportunity for artists working in and across spatial practices to research, experiment and make, in a public-facing space. Artists have unique access to workshops, research libraries and technical support within the Hunter St Centre for the Arts, as well as support and event facilitation from constance ARI board members.
This project seeks to support and encourage:
- Critically engaged practice
- Process without fully predetermined outcomes
- Radical shifts and enfoldings in practice
- Experimental and emerging processes and media
- New and interdisciplinary collaborations
