In hindsight the narrative may/may not have been as intended

Through the particular concerns of artists Izabela Pluta and Todd McMillan In hindsight the narrative may/may not have been as intended gives us pause to consider the broader contexts in which they are located, such as our own.
Izabela Pluta shows work from the Making trace, series, she has long used landscape as vehicle to explore ideas around the construction of memory, experience and identity and whilst the subjects of the gaze of her lens allude to a broad almost universal concern, this investigation, this search, is in fact driven from the unique experience of the artist.
Todd McMillan exhibits I love you I want you I need you. The words presented in this performance-based video are taken from the title of an early Elvis song. In keeping with McMillan’s interest in endurance, melancholy and the dichotomy of speed alongside slowness, this work comprises an hour-long performance sped up by splicing to one minute. The video shows the artist mouthing the words “I love you. I want you. I need you”.
