Pollies Unsaturated

An exhibition of posters by 1st year Graphic Design students from the University of Tasmania, School of Art.
INFLIGHT is pleased to announce that Pollies Unsaturated will be opened by The Honourable Duncan Kerr.
Anticipating the Federal election in October 2004, the 1st year Graphic Design students from the University of Tasmania, School of Art, were given a brief that threw them into the electoral debate. Each student was randomly allocated a Federal MP, then over a two-part project; each was required to produce a body of work that explored the identity, vision and personal opinions of their Member of Parliament.
The first part of the project was to design and produce a screen-printed, 2 colour, A3 poster. The aim of the poster was to promote the parliamentarian for re-election. Key issues relating to the MP's portfolio had to be researched and promoted through this piece.
The second part of the project required the students to write down 3 words that reflected their personal opinion of the parliamentarian's practice and ideology. Using the 3 words as a starting point, the students where then asked to design a visual identity/logotype that explored the relationship between these words. Research for the project extended to a number of fields including: propaganda graphics, visual identity, politics and personal ethics.
