Ben Booth is absorbed by the surface and form of the constructed world - air conditioning ducting, bridges, airplane and boat construction. This is an attraction to what Richard Deacon calls 'the stuff of the world'. It is this 'stuff' that Booth rearranges, manipulates, maneuvers and reorders in his imagination and then fashions into artworks. The resulting artworks are free from the restriction of 'function' and exist to be enjoyed for their form alone. Booth likes tools and the possibilities of what they and the hand can do. The laborious and obsessive process of making drives his art practice. The sculptural artworks that result are often directly linked to his own physical proportions - the reach of his arms, his height.
