What's the Matter?

"Whatever it grants to vision and whatever its manner, a photograph is always invisible: it is not it that we see." Roland Barthes

A photograph's "object-ness" is often overlooked because of the overwhelming action of the image. This exhibition is, to a degree, a topographical survey, exploring the material and object qualities of the photograph. This self-referencing turns the material of the photograph into the subject of the photograph. Emidio investigates traditional photographic space, both actual and illusionary, reminding us of the construct of photography and challenging its conventional escape into imagery.
